Meara wants to see dinosaurs, sharks and other incredible creatures, however she’s disappointed as all the ‘thrilling’ animals are out of reach for her. Grandad tells her of the mythical, shape-shifting, golden hare who can jump to the moon in two and a half leaps. With Grandad’s nature journal in hand, they go in search of the legendary hare, and discover the magic of the natural world along the way. But will they ever find the golden hare?
The Golden Hare is based on the golden hares of Rathlin Island. These striking and almost mythical creatures were the catalyst to take Paddy's characters off on another adventure.
Paddy Donnelly a picture book illustrator and author, originally from Ireland and now based in Belgium. He grew up on the beautiful north coast of Ireland, surrounded by mythical stories of giants, magical creatures and shape-shifting animals. All of this prompted his love for nature, animals, the sea and storytelling.
In 2023 Paddy won the Judges’ Special Award at the KPMG Children’s Books Ireland Awards.
The Golden Hare is sequel to The Vanishing Lake.
