Well, summer is finally here. Rain or shine now’s the time to explore the nature we have all around us. Whether it’s in the garden, up the mountains or along the seashore. We have some great outdoor guides to help you get to know a little more about all the local creatures and plant life that we are so lucky to be surrounded by.

First up we’ve got something for the kids! We know… it can be a long summer break and the kids still need to be kept busy. How about exploring wildlife and nature in their own back garden, I mean did you know Ireland has 98 types of wild bee and 20 types of ladybirds! There’s plenty to discover. ‘The Great Big Book of Irish Wildlife’ has tonnes of fun facts & highlights key wildlife events and happenings throughout the seasons in Ireland. Children will love learning about weird and wonderful natural phenomena, such as the metamorphosis from tadpole to frog. There is so much to learn! If you fancy a day trip it even has beautifully illustrated wildlife hotspots to visit. The 'First Book of Irish Wildlife' is a great start baby board book filled with different kinds of wildlife from the hedgerows and woodlands to skies and seas.

Take a Seaside stroll, there’s always something to discover on the shore. ‘Ireland’s Seashore A field Guide’ is the ideal companion on any seashore ramble, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced nature lover.  Ever wondered what on earth all those little swirly mounds are on top of the sand? Me too! Well…they’re made by the Lugworm! You learn something new every day. You’ll identify all your finds with a helpful guide and simple questions like ‘Does it have a shell?’ Which will guide you to the correct section (e.g. ‘Snails, mussels and their relatives’), where you will find facts and memorable nuggets of information. Did you know banded wedge shells can leap if disturbed. Tread carefully.

So, whether its bugs, birds or plant life our natural surroundings are jam packed with wonderful living creatures to discover.
