There is no other time of the year that we love more. Snow topped mountains, Christmas lights, cold walks and lovely warm tea by the fire. Here are our top five things not to be missed this Christmas in the Mournes.

1) Meet the real Santa and his reindeers

Of course Santa is on top of our list. We checked it twice and Santa’s Grotto is the most magical experience to get you and  your little one’s into the Christmas spirit. Santa's Cottage is the Official Residence of Santa in Ireland, as awarded by the "Greenland-Denmark World Congress of Santas. Well we can’t argue with that. Be sure to book soon as this Santa is in high demand.

2) Make your own Christmas Decorations

Join our friends at The Clay Project and make your own Christmas Decorations this Christmas. They will be heirlooms cherish forever and make lovely unique gifts too. Check out their upcoming workshops, or get your hints in for a voucher. There are some good ones coming up in January too, that we have your eyes on.

3) Winter Walks in the Mournes

Crunchy steps through fresh snow. Beautiful white peaks. We love it all! Be sure to go for a wee wintery walk through the Mournes. It might not be Slieve Donard for all, but even a wee stroll up is just lovely. Or head down to the water and frosty dunes for magic of crisp winter walk around Murlough.

4) Ready for a feast?

Well if you are thinking of Christmas the first thing on our mind. Well maybe the second but it is high up the list. So why not go for some festive treats from our neighbours. We have spotted Railway Street have launched their Christmas Sandwich and Birch just updated their seasonal menu. Plus I am sure you will pick up a sweet little thing at Black Box Donut to complete the culinary festive tour. We have heard they are launching their festive flavours soon!

5) Christmas Atmosphere and Lights

The Christmas Tree is shining centre stage here in Newcastle. All the lights are up. There is Christmas in the air in Newcastle.  A wee stroll down the streets after dark, walking the promenade and seeing St. John’s Lighthouse shine across, simple but magical wee moments. Be sure not to miss them with your loved ones!

Have we missed anything you love about Christmas in the Mournes? Do let us know. If you are still looking for some special Mourne inspired gifts, have a wee look at our “Piece of Home” Collection. The best of the Mournes, brought together for you by our team. Merry Christmas!
